How many of you have actually studied the health care "crisis"?

And not just listened to what others tell you?

We hear: "other countries have a longer life expectancy." Why?:

Researchers from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston compared the results of two large-scale surveys of the U.S. population regarding adherence to five healthy lifestyle habits.

According to their findings, between 1988 and 2006:

The percentage of obese adults between 40 and 74 (determined by body mass index of 30 or higher) increased from 28% to 36%, reinforcing findings of many studies indicating Americans are getting fatter.
Physical activity 12 times or more per month among people in that age group declined from 53% to 43%.
Smoking rates remained essentially flat, going from 26.9% to 26.1%.
Those people eating five or more fruits and vegetables daily dropped from 42% to 26%.
Moderate alcohol use increased from 40% to 51%. Moderate use was defined as having up to one drink daily for women and two for men.

We hear: "We have 47 million uninsured." The truth?:

"A closer look at that report reveals the Census data include 9.487 million people who are “not a citizen.” Subtracting the 10 million non-Americans, the number of uninsured Americans falls to roughly 37 million."
"Many of the same people pushing the incorrect numbers of uninsured Americans also claim that these people cannot “afford” insurance."
"But according to the same Census report, there are 8.3 million uninsured people who make between $50,000 and $74,999 per year and 8.74 million who make more than $75,000 a year. That’s roughly 17 million people who ought to be able to “afford” health insurance because they make substantially more than the median household income of $46,326."

"So what is the true extent of the uninsured “crisis?” The Kaiser Family Foundation, a liberal non-profit frequently quoted by the media, puts the number of uninsured Americans who do not qualify for current government programs and make less than $50,000 a year between 13.9 million and 8.2 million."

We hear: There won’t be government rationing or other issues Republicans use as "scare tactics." The truth?:

In an article DEFENDING their health care system, the U.K. admits, at the very end of this article, that:

"British officials acknowledge that their system has been struggling to cope and faces a 15 billion pound ($24 billion) deficit. Hospitals are often overcrowded, dirty and understaffed, which means some patients do not get the care they are promised."

How many of the senators do you believe educated themselves on the health care "crisis" before voting for a ONE TRILLION DOLLAR bill?
JM and Lefty-

Wow, you guys are sheep. These little things I copied and pasted are called FACTS. I know you guys just go by what the Dems tell you, but you should try educating yourself. You’ll feel better about yourselves.

We could leave the system as it is and take the left over TARP money and insure the entire UNINSURED. This would cause less stress and money but it is not about this, it is about control.

I was a R.N. for 32 years and there is a crisis brought on by the Government regulation. If not for the government cost fixing the price of the MD and Hospitals and causing them to lose money on the government paid patients there would not be the constant escalation of the cost of visits. The loss of the government payment patient is made up by the doctor and the hospital by the insured patient making up the difference.

The GOVERNMENT HAS CAUSED THE CRISIS AND THEIR ACTIONS WILL NOT FIX IT.

  1. hmm, i need a new name says:

Obviously life span does not have to do with insurance. But that does not mean our insurance system does not cause problems.

All you’ve demonstrated is an ability to cut and past carefully selected "facts" that happen to support your agenda.

The problems with our health care system have been going on for years, and many of us, especially those in the health care field know exactly what is happening. There are senators who have spent their entire careers studying the impact of our health care system on the health of the economy and the public.

Educating yourself does not mean perusing a few websites and cutting a few choice articles. You are in no position to be ranting about people being "educated" about anything.
Stay in school, you aren’t educated yet.

Your statistics is very one sided. The truth of the matter is the cost would be much greater to our economy if we do nothing like the GOP suggests.

I’ve been a registered nurse for 29 years and there is two significant problems…..The uninsured illigals are the ones that are having a bunch of babies….go to the hospital maternity ward, they are almost all Mexican.. and all have bouncing American Babies eligible for Medicaid….No other country has Automatic Citizenship but the US…these should be Mexican citizens and Mexico’s Medicaid should be paying for their care ….

in addition….in regards to the illigals they wait till they have severe problems before going to the hospital, for an example , pancreatitis due to their diet and then they have to be feed intravenously for 1 month…and all their relatives come up and spend the night, eat guest trays…and love to turn up the air conditioning….all of which will never be paid.

…..Secondly, the senators do not understand that Medicare only pays 80% of approved cost….but their rates of coverage has not been adjusted for inflation. Example: a total hip cost most insurance companies $30,000. Medicare pays 80% of their approved 12,000…and all the insuranced patients have to make up the difference in higher premiums….and now they want 30 million more that the govt will pay 80% of 12,000….this will sky rocket everyone in private insurance and will lead to rationing and make Medicare and existing programs go belly up….what a travesty that we have politicians making ignorant decision, most of which have probably not read the bill nor understand what they signed…
….Example: the bill taxes medical devices…i.e. Tampons….yes, every women that uses a tampon will have an extra tax…after all they could use pads…right….This is just one example of the insanity…

….No tax for Nancy’s Botox….or boob jobs…but run the tanning business out of town….yeah…this is the change we have been waiting for…NOT!!
